🕯️ A plane ticket separates a thousand years of heritage
Every year during the Qingming Festival, the Chinese New Year, and the Winter Solstice, you see photos of relatives and friends in China posting ancestor worship photos on WeChat Moments - incense is lingering, tables are full of offerings, and families gather together to offer a stick of incense to their ancestors.
And you, on the other side of the world, turned on your phone to check the ticket prices, and then turned it off silently. I can’t move away from work and my children are in school, so the cost of a round trip is too high.
But there was a voice in my heart that kept ringing: I didn’t go again this year.
📿 Worshiping ancestors is not just a ritual
In traditional culture, ancestor worship has a deep meaning:
- Never forget where you came from — 人要知道自己从哪里来,才能走得更远
- Pass on filial piety —
Many overseas Chinese have told me that every time they return to their country to pay homage to their ancestors, they feel at ease. It was as if those indescribable anxieties and uneasiness were soothed by a stick of incense.
But the reality is – not everyone can fly back anytime.
🙏 When you are overseas, your heart feels like returning home
Don't let distance become a regret.
